Rufus Girey Church

Rufus Girey Church, 84, of Florence, passed away on Friday, February 4, 2022. Mr. Church was born in Mullins, SC a son of the late Rupert Church and Ethel Thompson Church.He served in the US Air Force for 24 years and retired as TSGT in 1979.He worked for St. Andrews SC Public Works and was a member of Quinby Baptist Church.He was a Mason and Shriner and was President of Dorchester Shrine Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronnie (Ellen) Church, and a brother, Jerry Church. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Rogers Church; daughters, Cathy (Jerry) Whitted of Lumberton, NC, Michelle (Tony) Powell of Florence, and Trystina (Daniel) Lowe of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Chris, Mike, Macy, George, Collin, Bethany, and Joseph; great-grandchildren, Aubree, Noah, and Paxton; brother, Larry (Sandy) Church of Newport News, VA. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon – 1:00 pm Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with the service to be held at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.Burial with military honors will follow at the Florence National Cemetery.
