Samuel Claud Cramer

May 16, 1948 — July 10, 2022

Samuel Claud Cramer, 74, passed away on July 10, 2022, after a brief illness. He was born in Tarentum, PA to Darrel Dwight and Helen Margaret Cramer.Sam was born very prematurely and with a clubbed foot.At his birth, the doctor told Helen her son would likely never learn to walk.Helen refused to accept that prognosis. She worked Sam’s foot hundreds of times each day until he walked as naturally as any other boy.It was that work as she counted aloud to him that gave Sam his easy affinity for numbers. Sam and his family moved to South Carolina in 1959 at a time when Florence was transforming itself from a small railroad town to a junction of two major interstates.Bringing with them the family business, Aluminum Ladder Company. In 1976, Sam started Carbis Ladders and Fabrications. He was passionate about his work and truly loved the new challenges that each project brought. He truly was energized by his love for the company. Sam loved all people and was married three times.First to Darlene Miller, the mother of his three children, and one of his closest friends throughout his entire adult life.Later he married Elizabeth Zang and Kara Martin. He met his recent love, Anne Whyte, just a year ago but would happily tell all who would listen that she was the one he had been looking for.She certainly made him very happy in all of their adventures together. Sam was a generous benefactor to many charities, churches, scholarships, and individuals.Whether it was building drinking wells in Africa or quietly funding homes for the less fortunate, Sam was a humble yet giving man.His caring nature had always been present but his religious passion came later in life.Sam was a believer in Christ and would not hesitate to witness about God’s impact on his life. Sam loved golfing, bowling, playing cards, and reading. He was, however, a perpetual sore loser. His competitive nature and drive to succeed, which served him so well at work, were less desirable during his hand and foot canasta games. Sam is survived by his three children: Samantha “Sug” McGowan, Darrel Scott (Denise) Cramer, Shawn Cramer (Frank) Mizell and four grandchildren: Cody Brice McGowan, Megan Courtney Cramer, Noah Reilly Mizell, and Hayden Scott Cramer. The family will host a viewing at Stoudemire-Dowling Funeral Home on Sunday evening, July 17, 2022, from 6pm until 8pm.The funeral will be held at Central United Methodist Church on Monday, July 18, 2022, at 2pm with a graveside service immediately after at Mount Hope Cemetery.A Celebration of Life will be held Monday evening at his home in Florence. All who loved Sam are encouraged to come and share your memories and happy thoughts as we celebrate Sam with love and laughter. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions in Sam’s name to the charity of your choosing. Please sign the tribute wall for the family at www.stoudenmiredowling.com.
