Samuel A. "Chic" Player, Sr.

Samuel A. “Chic” Player, Sr., 84, of Irmo, SC passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Mr. Player was born in Society Hill, SC, a son of the late Cameron Player and Beulah Miller Saleeby. After 38 years of loyal service, he retired from Stone Container as an Area Superintendent of Maintenance. He was a Veteran of the U. S. Army and a Master Mason. Chic was an avid fisherman who loved to go shrimping with family. Some of his fondest memories were teaching his knowledge of maintenance to his sons and enjoying the southern cooking of his wife of 60 years, Peggy. Surviving are wife, Peggy Cooke Player; sons, Samuel A. Player, Jr. (Brooke), Jeff Player, and Sean Smothers; grandchildren, Brian Player, Amanda Player, and Joshua Player; great-grandchildren, Caleb Player and Emma Campbell; brothers, Franklin Player and Wayne Gandy; sisters, Joyce McLendon and Betty Boan; special niece, Renee Broach. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, www.shrinerschildrens.org. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with the service to be held at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel.
