Thomas Ammons

Thomas Ammons, 74, of Effingham, passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024. Mr. Ammons was born in Florence, SC a son of the late Jessie Ammons and Lena Mae Miles Heyward. He retired from the US Navy as a MS1 E6 after 22 years of service and had worked for South Florence Building Supply for 21 years in shipping and receiving. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jimmy Ammons and Jerry Ammons; sister, Diane Zorgias; and father-in-law, E.L. Cox. Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, JoAnn Cox Ammons; son, Tommy Ammons; daughter, Reneé (Richard) Hancock; grandson, Brandon Floyd; and brother, Jessie Ray (Patsy) Ammons. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm Monday, March 4, 2024 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with a memorial service to be held at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. The family asks that all who attend to please come casually dressed as a tribute to the man Thomas was.
