Virginia Allen Peacock, 88, of Florence went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, September 11, 2023, at home with her family. Mrs. Peacock was born in Pittsburgh, PA, a daughter of the late Arthur Harrison Allen, Jr. and Virginia Inez Skipper Allen. She retired as the Administrator for Florence Chamber of Commerce. She has worked with Standard Building and Loan in Columbia, Peoples Federal, Florence School District One and the Florence Chamber of Commerce. She was an active member of Florence Junior League working with the Crippled Children’s Home. She was also a past President of Opti-Mrs Club and a past president of the Lioness Club. Mrs. Peacock did volunteer work with House of Hope, Manna House and The Light House. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist church and held many offices in different committees. She also started a class for Special Needs Children in Sunday School at Calvary. Virginia loved her Lord, her family and her Church. Helping others was one of her most favorite things to do, especially working with Special Needs Children. She has been an active Florence Baptist Temple member for the past 7 years. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by husband, James Harry Peacock, Jr.; a grandson, Ryan Drake Buffkin; and brothers, James P. Allen and Chadwick Allen. Surviving are her son, Stephen Brooks (Terri) Permenter of Chesnee, SC; daughters, Cathy Lynn (Greg) Buffkin of Florence, SC, Robin Permenter of Florence, SC and Amy (David) Clark of Florence, SC; 4 grandchildren, Whitney Buffkin Turner, Dylan Jennings Nichols, Robert Chase Keefe (Kendall) and Jacob Chapman Keefe; 2 great-grandchildren, William Elijah Turner and Olivia Harper Buffkin; brothers, Richard B. Allen of Bowden, Georgia and Arthur Allen, III of Knoxville, TN; and very special friend, Dr. Carroll Watford. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Florence Baptist Temple. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
