Wesley Stutts Johnson, Jr.

August 7, 1950 — May 6, 2024

Wesley Stutts Johnson Jr., 73, of Effingham, SC, passed away on Monday, May 6, 2024. He was born in Florence, SC, the son of the late Wesley Stutts Johnson Sr. and Lillian Cornelia Baxley Johnson. He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps having served in Vietnam. He owned and operated his own construction business, was a proud member of the Home Builders Association of the Greater Pee Dee, and was a member of Flintville Masonic Lodge #158. Wesley was a devoted NASCAR and Miami Dolphins fan, an excellent cabinet maker and had a servant’s heart. He loved his family and friends, loved to camp, and there is not a buffet line in Florence County that he hasn’t visited and there was never a piece of cake that saw him and made it out. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Billy Johnson. Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Bobbie Jean Fennell Johnson; daughters, Danielle Michelle Johnson (James Matherly) and April Lillian Johnson (Michael Fleming); grandson, Robert Hayden Powell; brothers, Gerald (Diane) Johnson, Tony (Sandra) Johnson, and Chris (Sommer) Johnson; sisters, Libby McCutcheon, Wendy Bryant, and Bobbie (Charles) Critcher; sister-in-law, Martha Johnson; special niece, Missy Bryant and several other nieces and nephews; and his fur baby, Gabi. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Florence Humane Society, P. O. Box 4808, Florence, SC 29502 or to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, www.shrinerschildrens.org. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 10, 2024 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home with the family to receive friends afterward.
