Wilbur Mclauren Parrott Jr.

Wilbur McLauren Parrott, Jr. of Florence, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023. Mr. Parrott was born the son of the late Jessie Ruth Oliver Parrott and Wilbur McLauren Parrott, Sr. He was a veteran of the US Army and served with the Military Police. He retired after 30 years of employment with Clemson University Pee Dee Research and Education Center. He also worked as a mail carrier, including service during Hurricane Hugo. Mr. Parrott attended Immanuel Baptist Church and was one of the first Poet Laureates at South Florence High School. He enjoyed woodworking, painting, writing, and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Biscuits. He also loved bus tours with his wife and was a “History Buff”. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, Charles Parrott, and sisters, Barbara Fore and Pat Baker. Mr. Parrott is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Patsy Diane Parrott; son, Michael Scott (Salem) Parrott of Florence, SC; daughter, Mallie Elizabeth Griffin of Florence; grandchildren, Brian Griffin, Lilli Griffin and Logan Blalock; sister, Judy (Hubert) Jones of Columbia, SC; brothers-in-law, J. W. Baker and Albert Fore; and close friends, James (Minnie) Kinlaw and James (Gail) Sanders. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
