William Charles Smith

WILLIAM CHARLES SMITH FLORENCE, SC WILLIAM CHARLES SMITH, 81, of Florence and formerly of Rockingham, NC, died Thursday, August 25, 2011 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Mr. Smith was born in Wisconsin, a son of the late Herbert and Emma Helena Matilda Fritz Smith.He was a US Air Force veteran having served during World War II.He retired in 1981 as an auto technician and had been residing in Florence for 1 year. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Joyce Marie Ewars Smith, who died April 21, 2010, a son, Stephen Scott Smith and a great-granddaughter, Mica Shay Cranford. Surviving are his son, Thomas W. (Debbie) Smith of Florence, daughters, Leisa (Walker) Bittle of Pine Bluff, NC and Machaelle Stroud of Cheraw; 11 grandchildren; a special grandson, Tad (Denise) Smith of Rockingham, NC; 19 great-grandchildren and a brother, Herbert (Pauline) Smith of Arkansas.
