William D. Young

William D. (Billy) Young, 81, passed away August 19, 2022. Billy was born in Florence, S.C. to Callie Law Young and Dorothy Hatchell Young in 1940. Mr. Young graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1958 and attended Radio School in Atlanta, GA. He worked for O’Brian Mace as a teenager, for Sonoco in Hartsville, was a plumber with Urqhart Plumbing, while working with the railroad. He worked at CSX Railroad for 50 years and was an engineer in Cayce, SC until retirement. He owns a farm in Effingham, SC. Billy attended Effingham Presbyterian Church and was a member of South Florence Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Jack Melvin Young, and son in law, Brian Lee Hull. Surviving are his wife of almost 59 years, Harriett Jordan Young; daughter, Melinda Y. Hull (Randall D. Marshall) of Garden City Beach, SC and son, David Young; grandchildren are Charter Captain Michael Brian Hull(Claire Collins) of Murrells Inlet, SC and Petty Officer with the Coast Guard William Addison Hull(Haylie Whorton) stationed in Charleston; nephews include Barry Stone, Todd Stone, Jeff Stone, Tony Stone, Mel Young, and Jason Young. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the funeral home chapel.
