Willie Edward “Buddy” Wilson, of Florence, passed away peacefully on the evening of January 3. 2025 at the age of 93. Born on August 22, 1931, in Savannah, Georgia, Buddy lived a remarkable life filled with service, family and a love for the simpler things. Buddy proudly served in the United States Army before dedicating his career to protecting his community as a firefighter and multiple other vocations to support his family, eventually retiring from Fiber Industries. His steadfast commitment to service left an enduring legacy. An active member of South Florence Baptist Church, Buddy was a familiar and respected presence among his church family and was always quick to pass along a handshake, a mint, or a piece of gum. Buddy found joy in life’s quieter moments, whether he was watching baseball, taking long walks, riding around in his truck, casting a fishing line, or enjoying a classic western movie. He is survived by his children, Sally Wilson, Mike Wilson (Karyn) and Mary Lynn Kleinknecht (Bob). He was preceded in death by his son, Eddie Wilson, as well as his parents John and Eunice Wilson, brothers, John, Woodrow, G.C. and his sisters Mary, Miriam, Trudy, and Peggy. Buddy is also survived by Mrs. Joyce Wilson, his 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. A service to honor Buddy’s life will be held at South Florence Baptist Church on Monday, January 6, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate the life of a man who lived with dedication and grit. The family will receive friends for a visitation at 1:00 P.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to South Florence Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice in Buddy’s memory. Buddy will be remembered for his unwavering service to others, his love for his family, and his appreciation for life’s simple joys. The family would also like to thank the staff of Pee Dee Gardens and McLeod Hospice for the care that they provided the last season before his passing.
